The Echoing Heart

The Echoing Heart

About ten in the morning, the first day of school; the weather was so calm and cool when Kelly first saw him. He was a short distance away, mingling with some students in the campus, as he took a glance of her. He smiled at her as she smiled at him back. His deep smile captured Kelly’s heart to beat unnaturally. The spark of his dark brown eyes wakens her soul to walk consciously and unsoundly. At that moment Kelly felt the world stopped and revolved only for the two of them, with the vague intuition that he feels the same way too. Then, those unwavering thoughts abruptly change as she had her senses back when she heard someone calling her name. “Oh, Anne…” she exclaimed. Ann the first student in the campus she had met at the canteen.

Anne is an old student while Kelly just moves in. They’re classmates in some of their subjects, so they had much of time to be with each and became two good friends.

One very ordinary day Kelly got introduced to one of Ann’s friend. Kelly had no idea who that person was. Just when she knew it was David.

Oh! David. It’s him a guy who once captured her senses to fantasy. David was Anne’s childhood friend, from a family of Lawyers. David is a well-mannered and outspoken gentleman. And a funny kind of guy, humble and the more you know him, he is a man of great ambitions.

Kelly thought knowing him would end up with that simple smiles, laughs and conversations. But then things change, they become even more visible with each other. And the more they see each other many interesting things being talked about. Until friendship starts to bloom and progress into something special, and David became a part of her.

Every day as sun dances and shines, they longed to see each other and be with one another. They never had dull moments together but memories filled with laughter and cheer. There were arguments argued, fights fought and misunderstanding misunderstood. But such don’t even matter, for they always find ways to settle things the way matured lovers do. As love grew deeper the passion increases. Until such things which is not supposed to happen happened.

At the moment Kelly knew she was carrying an unborn child in her body, she void talking to David and even going out with him. She had felt the uncertainty to what is going to happen if David found out her condition. Kelly feared of razing David’s dreams and ambitions. So, for a while, Kelly kept her condition.

One day David came to visit her but then, Kelly ignored him. Instead she locked herself in her room. Moment later that day Kelly’s mom noticed Kelly’s indifference. She talks to Kelly as a mother and a friend. She tried to cheer her up and tried to make her laugh; guessing the query… still Kelly kept her silence and looked at her mom with guilt. Until one question was asked from Kelly’s mom; “Are you pregnant?” She laughs with innocence. “No I mean… I just want to see you smile… sound absurd, right?” She concludes. “Anyway, I trust you Kelly...” Confuse what to say… Kelly knew her mother never meant asking such question, because she knew she had faith in her and trust her deeply. But when tears starts falling on Kelly’s eyes, her mother then understand. Kelly felt the pain her mother had then. She remembers, the day when her dad died and only the two of them survived life’s challenges and how her mother had sacrificed just to give the best for her. The love, the attention she needs without her dad. And after all the precious sacrifice this is what she got in return. Kelly’s mom felt cheated but then again mother’s love prevails. She holds Kelly tight and kept the assurance to be with her all the way.

The next day after Kelly realized it’s about time for David to know everything so, she called him up and David drive her around same way they did. It’s been a while they haven’t seen each other, so David had so much of good things to tell to Kelly. How he topped his major subjects and won the out campus debate… he always had the sparks in his eyes and cheer in his words. At the instant Kelly heard all those things; she was tight-lipped and in perplex emotion. But then, Kelly kept her silence and took a smile for a while.

The moment David noticed Kelly’s silence; he stopped the car and looked at her straight. “Problem?” as he said holding her hand. Kelly took a deep sight at him and then finally, “I’m pregnant…” the first phrase she bravely uttered. It seemed the world to David stopped and shattered the moment he heard those words. The words he refused to understand and the least word he would have thought to hear that day. He was in silence and motionless for a while, his eyes straight on the road as he slowly unhold Kelly’s hand. As Kelly looked at him, Kelly felt it wasn’t him anymore. The spark of his eyes changed. He was confused, bothered and uneasy. Kelly never saw him that way before. But she knew and she was ready to give up her love to David just to give way for his dreams. Kelly heard no words from him anymore, instead he starts the car drove her back home.

Sometimes the joy of loving is letting that someone go. Kelly love him so much that letting him go would be the best way to pave his way for his dreams to come true. But somehow the marked of their happy memories together is never forgotten.

One morning Kelly woke up with flowers all around her room. Bouquet of colorful flowers perfectly arranged and displayed in her table's bedroom. And as she stepped down on the floor she felt the softness of petals. Petals of red roses widely spread through the hallway. Kelly was filled with wonder and surprise. She starts calling her mom but she takes no response. Instead a quite peaceful surroundings and a romantic melody took its part. Kelly followed the pace of petals, then finally through the length of her mom’s garden… she saw a man standing, well dressed and with him a single white rose. It was David, his smile. Oh! How she missed so much. Tears gushed unexpectedly on Kelly’s eyes. She stepped fast as she could until she had him in his arms again. “Dreams and ambitions can wait but losing you is like losing it all.” He cried. David took Kelly’s hand and gave her the ring. With the promise to spend the rest of his life with her, against all odds; then a moment later friends and families of David and Kelly came out and cheered for them. Unknowingly, to Kelly they planned the whole thing. While Kelly is embracing motherhood without David and learning to accept things the way it is, David on the other hand sought advice from his families and friends.

Time passed-weeks, months were filled with so many experiences. They tied a knot and kept a solemn promise. It was all new to them; they lived apart from their parents and started a life of their own. Kelly and David continued their studies and as David worked part-time at his father’s Law firm still with the hope and the courage to fulfill his dreams and ambitions together with his inspiration Kelly his wife and their soon baby.

Life is full of surprises the least we expect the more it surprise us. Same as what love can do. It may turn our world upside down, but always brings out the best in us. And when one finally found true love, no matter how impossible it is, truly it will echo to their heart to lead them back to their happiness.
