SUPERGIRL AND THE MONUMENT TO SUPERMAN (Part Two)

“Hey Clark, there’s no more water! What happened?” Jimmy was dumbfounded, and fiddled with his camera bag.

“I’m not sure.” Clark pulled out his super-secure cellphone to STAR LABS.

“Mr. Kent, our scientists and analysts are scared out of our minds. We have a multitude of bogeys from space about to hit Earth. Some are so massive that they range from one to two miles in diameter. A few days ago the skies were clear. We suspect an alien attack.” Edgar Murphy was a senior officer with STAR LABS.

“That’s completely disconcerting Edgar. I’ll check it out as soon as possible. I’m going to leave Montana within a day or two. When is the first impact?”

“In five to seven days.” Edgar nervously dropped the secure phone to the ground.

“Jimmy, you have to leave for Metropolis tonight. There’s no sense in covering this story anymore. Trust me.” Clark was preparing to fly into the Milky Way Galaxy, in order to destroy the asteroids before they hit Earth.

ON THE COMMAND POD SHIP

“This Superman left the Earth to destroy twenty-four asteroids. Activate the Star Destroyer to implode the twin suns beyond their galaxy and in the Marbloata Galaxy. The earthlings will beg Superman to fly to us for peace in their world. Our powers are unchallenged.” Tanthorus gloated about the brilliance of their strategy.

ON PLANETOID GENTILNAH

“Kaylion, the distress sign in the star system has been activated. Earth! Earth is in dire trouble. My cousin Kal-El needs my assistance. I must leave now. His galaxy is so very far away that it will take me two months to arrive on that planet.” Zora changed into her silver bodysuit, and bade farewell to her friends, the elements.

IN PARIS, FRANCE

“President Laurent, the southern coastline has been struck by a massive asteroid, and a small town, Croix, has been demolished. We believe over one thousand people have been killed.” Chief Advisor Toma Thibaut nervously placed the report and video disc onto the President’s desk.

“Where is Superman?” President Laurent slammed his fist on his desk.

AT THE DAILY PLANET

“Chief, STAR LABS has confirmed an alien attack. A number of spaceships have been detected at the edge of our galaxy.” Lois was biting her fingernails, while Perry White looked at his computer screen.

“Lois, did the analysis by STAR LABS show any evidence of exploding asteroids? And by the way, what did the International Space Station report about those twin supernovas?”

“Very, very suspicious.”

“The Earth needs Superman!” Perry made his way out the door of his office to a special meeting at the White House.

ON THE COMMAND POD SHIP, FOLLOWED BY FIFTY OTHER PODS

“Activate the Interstellar Communicator. Link with their communication systems worldwide.” Tanthorus was ready to broadcast Queen Ursa’s message.

“Broadcast!”

“Earthlings…and Superman…we are alien beings from the planet Crusex. We have the ability to completely destroy your world. We destroyed the twin suns in a galaxy far, far away. If Earth wants peace, then Superman must negotiate an interstellar treaty with us. We are crystalline in form and we are more impregnable than your Superman.” The voice of Queen Ursa was eerie, as it was a translation from their native language to a mechanized form of the languages spoken on Earth.

AT THE CAPITOLS OF THE MOST POWERFUL NATIONS ON EARTH

“Russia stands united.”

“China stands united.”

“France stands united.”

“England stands united.”

“Germany stands united.”

“Japan stands united.”

“India and Pakistan stand united.”

“Mexico and all of South America stands united.”

“The United States of America stands united.”

IT IS HEREBY ORDERED THAT SUPERMAN MUST NEGOTIATE AN INTERSTELLAR PEACE ACCORD, WHEREBY THE EARTH AND ITS INHABITANTS MAY LIVE IN PEACE WITH ALL ALIEN LIFEFORMS AND THEIR WORLDS.

IN METROPOLIS

“Lois, I must broker a negotiated peace accord with these aliens. Too many people have died, and too many cities are in danger of complete destruction. If these crystalline aliens have the ability to implode entire suns, then there is no other option.” Superman stood before Lois in the colors of Earth’s greatest protector and defender.

“I know. But I have the worst feeling about this. If they are that powerful, what could they possible do to subdue even you, Clark?”

“I must take the risk. Earth’s safety is in danger.”

IN THE DEEPEST REACHES OF SPACE

“I…Zora-El…am the cousin of Kal-El. I have come…in peace…and safety to defend…Earth! Good, I think that is all I need to say.” Zora was one month away from the Milky Way Galaxy.

ON THE COMMAND POD SHIP OF THE CRYSTALLINE FELINE ALIENS

“[***^^>>]]**^^[.” [Translated into English through a crystalline modulator, “Welcome Superman. We have come in peace. Do you wish to enter into a peaceful agreement with us?”]

“I…I…I…what…what is happening?” Superman bowed to the floor of the ship.

“Superman, it is a gas from a planet close to our sun. It is much like what your people fear most.” Tanthorus walked close to the immobilized Superman.

“Doctor Alio, take a sample of his fluids.” Tanthorus thrust her crystalline fingers into Superman’s left eye to see if he was ‘soft.’

AT STAR LABS MEDICAL FACILITY

“He’s coming around. Superman…are you alright? Is there anything we should know about your abnormalities?” Joseph Conklin was a specialist in alien physiology.

“Why is his flesh so soft? He seems…almost…human.” Edgar Murphy who was a senior officer, walked to the super-secure phone.

“Mr. President, Superman has an alien infection. He was comatose but he woke up an hour ago. He’s very, very ill.” Edgar waited for the President’s response.

“The aliens and their ships left, and maybe that’s the best news for us. Keep me posted about Superman’s condition.” The President hung up the phone.

Joseph Conklin accessed the Secured Anomaly Database, and retrieved the information about the genetic clone made by using Superman's blood. In the database was the case of the so-called 'Supergirl' also known as Kara Zor-El, Kara Elle Thomas, or simply Kara. Professor Marlene Priscilla Cline-Hsi had worked with Dr. Toma Lamb O'Shee on the theory of creating an alien strain of blood, which could be used as a serum in the unlikely case of blood poisoning to alien life forms. However, the actual experiments ended in complete failure. Nonetheless, there was hope that a 'Super' could be created out of an alien being, code-named 'Thomas.' A 'Supergirl' could be called into action in the event of Superman's unheard of injuries, due to his flight to the destroyed remains of a comet from his home planet of Krypton. The Supergirl project was meant to produce an alien being six feet and four inches tall. Professor Thomas Lam Hsi would oversee the project.

THREE WEEKS LATER, “THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN”

“Lois, honey, you’ve been crying non-stop for nearly three days straight. You’ve lost ten to twelve pounds and your eyes are so puffy. I hate to tell you this but the President is going to lay a wreath on Superman’s gravesite, his monument tomorrow.” Patricia Arnold placed the tray of food at the base of Lois’ bed, and quietly walked out of the bedroom.

Nearly one hundred thousand people were present for the honor-guard burial of Superman. His monument was carved marble almost ten feet tall and seven feet wide. The Eternal Flame was fueled by propane. Every newspaper, television, and internet report covered the entire story to
