Seasons of Love

The harbor bells sound out

Signaling the beginning

The start of the ship’s rolling into the bay

Bringing new inventions from the western world

And passengers, especially women, here to find their spring beau.

They stride off the ships their chins up, eyes looking down on the world.

All but one, she looks straight into my eyes and turns shyly

Capturing my heart with that one gesture.

I took her out, introducing her to the streets of Vienna.

And gliding down the canal’s in a gondola.

We speak of family, her’s in Spain, mine departed.

She sings La vie en rose bringing the same tears my mothers brought.

And when the sun sinks, the moons rays weave through her hair.

I brush a hair from her eyes and begin our love with a kiss.

My new and unexpected love, my Primavera.

As we stayed together, our love flourished like a summer rose.

Our energetic and fast love slowly faded.

Only to be replaced by a deep passion for each other.

Never have you seen two people more in love than me and my Primavera.

Or as I know her “amor de mi vida,” Love of my life.

Her family was rich and they didn’t approve of me.

However to her I was the world and she was mine.

She abandoned her family and we lived each other.

Everything I had I gave to her.

From the breath in my lungs, to the drums in my heart.

We walked the harbor where we met.

And dined at the rote bar.

She threw her head back, and laughed at my humour.

While I was swallowed by her gaze,

And after just four months, I had a ring burning a hole in my pocket.

I walked with that ring burning for months, until fall came.

We went to a concert at the Schönbrunn Palace,

And walked along our harbor afterwards.

When we came to the spot we met we kissed,

Only to be thrown apart.

Her family had come for her,

There her father stood angry and beet faced.

I argued with him, begged him not to take her.

I pulled out the ring and sang of my love.

But he just laughed and grabbed my loves arm.

I tried to take her back,

But he was stronger, and I fell back into our harbor.

My love struggled and fought, but he carried her out,

And I froze in water, warmer than my heart,

As I watched my Primavera, my springtime

become otoño, my fall.

I’m still frozen, and getting colder with the weather.

My Primavera is gone and I can’t live.

The ship's bells no longer ring, and the trees are bare.

People keep their heads down, and the sun is dim.

As the world mourns with me.

I’m numb as I walk our harbor.

My mind turning the memory of her over and over.

I stop at the spot we met,

The spot of my greatest love, and my greatest loss.

Only then a month later. Do the tears fall.

That’s when I decide to fight.
When I realized my primavera was waiting.

She traveled a sea to find me, I’ll go to war for her.

I booked a train, with nothing but my love

And her ring, finally alive again.

The world was warming as I traveled to my primavera.

The ice began melting, the birds continued their songs.

I was in Barcelona for 4 days before I found her.

Sitting alone face ashen still crying for me,

When I called out to her, amor de mi vida.

She turned and met my gaze with wonder and hope.

At that moment spring returned to the world.

The sun shined in full the harbor ships rang.

And Primavera transformed, now full of life and sun.
Leaping into my arms we kissed, once again living in each other.

I got down on one knee, declaring my love.

She gave me a look, the same one she gave when we met,

And I knew her answer.

That this spring is the start of something new.

The start of our lives together.

She took my hands and sang La vie en rose.

Whispering yes, we ran away together, beginning our lives together again.

All of this I thought as I slowly sank in the harbor.

Ice filling my lungs as my Primavera tore from her father and jumped to me.

We sank together, holding on.

As we warm up, and enter the eternal spring.
