Save The Meat For Texas Pete

Verse 1

This is an amazing story,
comes from way back when,
A man named Henry Jones,
Made a lifetime friend,

They met down south in Texas
In a place that couldn’t be beat,
Because they served up soup with bones
And soup with lots of meat,

They sat side by side on a coincidence,
And ordered up food to eat,
Henry said “Man, gimme soup with lots of bones.”
Pete said, “I’ll take the the soup with meat.”

Chorus

Pete saved his bones for Henry Jones,
Because Henry don’t want no meat,
Henry saved his meat for Texas Pete, because Pete don’t eat no bones.

Verse 2

They traveled throughout all of Texas,
Because Texas was big on meat,
And where there’s meat there’s lots of bones,
Making the deal real sweet.

If by chance you saw Henry Jones,
You were sure to have seen ol Pete,
They’d be dining there together at the Eateries.
That serves them bones and meat,

Pete would patiently separate his meat,
And set aside the bones,
Henry removed his bones so carefully,
Til all meat was gone.

They then swapped plates like brothers would,

Saying grace and then would begin to eat,

and this is how they got along,

sharing bones and meat.

Chorus

Pete saved the bones for Henry Jones,
Because Henry won’t eat no meat,
Henry saved his meat for Texas Pete,

because Pete don’t eat no bones.

Verse 3

So the next time they went out for a bite,

They thought to save some stash,
Henry ordered a big fat juicy hen,
Paid for it all with cash.

Henry said, “Pete, this one’s on me,

and Pete said, “Thank you my friend,”

And they took there waiting seat,

And soon they both began.

They’d shoot the breeze,
on meat and bones they greased,
On a meal that closed the deal.

“Next time it’s on me,” said Texas Pete,

Shook hands and it was sealed.

Chorus

Pete saved the bones for Henry Jones,
Because Henry don’t like no meat,
Henry saved his meat for Texas Pete, because Pete don’t eat no bones

This little story in song is an addendum to Nat King Cole’s humorous song, “Save The Bones For Henry Jones” song. I thought it was about time Henry Jones met up with my favorite hot sauce, Texas Pete.
