PLATONIC LOVE

PLATONIC LOVE

Love for a person whom she had never met and shall never meet in this lifetime!

Strange feeling had been residing in some corner of her heart ever since she had felt attracted to the man whom she had only heard of, never had the chance to even have a glimpse of or to meet him. Her thoughts were filled with a strange relaxed and soothing emotion, something she had never felt before. The feel of his touch, his nearness as she lay awake in the wee hours of the night, sleep eluding her these days. The smiles have returned, the mind’s always boggling with fresh ideas, the pleasantness is always in the air. Is she going crazy for someone unattainable or is this something better than craziness?

Reading Elizabeth Browning’s poem ‘Love Me For Love’s Sake’ the other day, she was forced to rethink. Was she simply sympathizing with him? But sympathy would fade way with time, only love would stay forever. Did the hardships, the struggles, the tears in his life attract her….but those shall vanish. Browning’s poem had been her favourite ever since her childhood. If only she had some parameter to judge whether her love was love in all its purity and not some wave of emotion in the spur of the moment.

She had been yearning for love all through her life; sometimes mistaking infatuations for love and at other times been taken advantage of her over-sentimental self.

This time it seemed for real. Atleast that is what she felt. She couldn’t have confided her thoughts to the people around. Who would have understood her? Who was ever there for her when she felt the need to share her intimate and innermost feelings with someone? Well, she often pondered and then shaking her head, would whisper to herself, ‘None. Not a single person that I can recall.’ This time, too, the answer was the same. She was on her own; had to make her decision herself.

The corner of her heart that lay vacant for several years was ready to welcome a new resident; one who would never leave her alone….perhaps!

He had been fighting and winning the battles that life had been presenting him with; overcoming all impediments alone; he was strong but lonely all through his life…much like her. Was she falling for his gloominess, something that attracts sympathy? She spent hours thinking and rethinking, analyzing whether her feelings were genuine or just a bubble that was bound to burst sooner than later. The sparkle in her eyes made the picture crystal clear. She was in love. A feeling so pure and serene, never to fade away shining with glint of the rising sun, the golden hue that touched every corner of her heart, the purest rays that illumined her body and soul!

Would she ever meet him? Not in this lifetime. But the thought never disheartened her.

His love had made her a better person. He had touched her heart. It’s not always necessary to meet a person in physical form. Elevating one’s inner consciousness to higher realms assures the meeting of the souls- eradicating all ills, all fallacies, all jealousies, all egos, all complexes, all vices from the inner self and raising oneself to the highest levels of consciousness to be one with the other beautiful souls residing in that realm! He had a heart of gold and nothing less than that was required to be one with him.

She dedicated her life to the goodness of humankind, just as he did during his lifetime....he no longer resides on this Earth. He adorns the special place in Heaven that he rightfully deserved.

And she, with a wish to be with him some day, continues the good work, treading the beautiful path that he had shown to humankind, carrying on his legacy. His love had changed her life, making her the best version of herself. She still keeps her love story a secret from everyone for fear of being called an idiosyncratic who fell in love with a man who no longer lives.

Love is the loveliest bond between souls. Her love for the most beautiful soul she had ever known was not bound to his mortal body, nor did it affect the intensity despite the fact that the mortal bodies could never meet…..but the souls were already one!
