Letter from a friend

I write this knowing the hate you carry for me in your heart. I pray this letter is lost. I want to confess to you, to lay my deeds before you. I love you to the point where I am no longer in control. You took my dreams and my soul with those fiery amber eyes. I was yours from the moment you stepped into my life. It is unfortunate that God had other plans for me. I will not apologize for my life or the road I walked. It has prepared me for this war, and I will see it to the end. My only regret is never showing you my affection, and I apologize for the cowardice of saying it now, in a letter, when it is too late. My unit is moving to the front, and I have a feeling my merit will be tested. I love you to the point of madness, Sarah. I will fight to see you again, and if I am to fall, I will be thinking only of you. My mother tells me you are married now, with children. I am jealous of him, but a coward has no right to protest. I have drafted my will to leave you and your children a part of my pension. And I ask that you take care of my mother in my stead. Sarah fell to her knees. "You bastard," she cried, tears running down her cheeks. "I loved you too. This isn't fair." "I'm sorry for your loss, ma'am. He fought bravely till the end." "He was always a stubborn man," she said through the tears. "Mommy, why are you crying?" two small voices called, running to their mother. "I'm okay, Sam. Abigail."
