Laura's struggles

Through blurry eyes Laura just laid still listening and thinking.
Listening to the night playing their night time tune while the trees danced along and her wind chimes played their TING, TING, TINGING, meditating song.

Thinking what woke her up. Her inner voice asked the question 'Was that a knock that woke me up or was it something else? Where did it come from? Who made it?
'It`s only just a part of a dream' Her logical answer. An answer she told herself to quell the fear that was rising.
'I`m such a silly girl thinking it was something else.'

KNOCK...KNOCK...KNOCK.

'There is that sound again?'Laura thought aloud with a slight tremble to her voice.

Laura thought as her heart skipped a beat 'So it wasn`t a dream, it sounds like it`s coming from the front door'. She pulled the blankets over her head as she whispered to herself 'if I ignore the knocking, it might just go away'.

KNOCK...KNOCK...KNOCK.

Laura noticed the knocks started to sound more frenzied, louder. The three sharp bangs, not unlike that of a shotgun being fired. The sound seemed to linger. An echo reverberating inside the vast emptiness of the houses lightless void.

Laura sucked in air like a fish gulping for its final breath, as if this would summon up her courage. She slowly got out of bed then proceeded across the cold wooden floor towards the bedroom door, the air nipped at her with its icicle teeth.

KNOCK...KNOCK...KNOCK.

Laura peered down the long hallway expecting to see someone there while opening the front door. She knew this wouldn`t be the case for she knew she was all alone and the front door is locked.
She walked down the long, lonely corridor, but she felt as if she wasn`t alone. She felt as if eyes were following her every move as she moved pass the old portraits of past family members hanging on the 70`s patterned wallpapered walls.

KNOCK...KNOCK...KNOCK.

"Hang on to your horses…I`m coming...I`m coming?"Shouted Laura as her footsteps echoed through the hallways vast emptiness.
She didn`t understand why she did what she did, I suppose curiosity got the better of her, but Laura creaked opened the large wooden and frosted glass structure. The night stared back as it shadows danced under the moonlights dull glow, causing silhouettes to stand like muted monsters ready to feed on imaginations nightmares and fears.
"Hello, anyone there?" Laura`s trembling voice cried out into the nights darken void.
No answer.
She felt a rush of fear rise from within, her mind started to play its anxiety game.
The shadows just kept dancing, almost mocking in their movements.
The sky made a rumbling sound, like a giants hunger pains as he lays in wait. Waiting for the right moment to pounce down from above to feed on small and feeble creatures.

"Hello.....is...is anybody there?"

Still no answer.
Once again, the darkness just stared blankly back. Her fear rose to panic when the gravity of the situation hit.
Laura thought 'now I know how a trapped animal feels as a stalking predator waits for the right moment.

With no answer Laura closed and locked the door. She moved the bulky antique hall table across the door.
'There, nothing will get in now.'

KNOCK...KNOCK...KNOCK.

"Look here if you don`t get out of here I`m going to ring the police".

KNOCK...KNOCK...KNOCK.

"Right have it your way!"

Laura felt she just had to look out the window and see what was out there. Tentatively she walked up to the bay window.
Laura stood frozen as she peered out. Tighter and tighter the grip inside pulled, squeezing her lungs until she had to suck in air like asthmatic grasping for life. .
The mysterious knocker grounded in its ghostly presence, with its long bony shaped tendrils at the end of flaying crooked limbs, just silently stared back at Laura.

KNOCK...KNOCK...KNOCK.

Laura just froze with that wide eyed, mouth agape stare. All she could hear was the sound of the double time tempo of her heart.

KNOCK...KNOCK...KNOCK.

All she could feel was the of rapid fire flow of her blood as it coursed through her veins. Fear sparked her nerve ends sending tremors rippling throughout her whole being.
Then a thought came to her. A realisation that will solve her dire situation.
And that thought...
'Tomorrow, I must tell the gardener to trim that tree.'

HAHAHAHAHAHA I bloody thought it was the slender man or the white, tall, and bony monster from the SCP. This is good! I really liked it!
