Knock knock knock
Knock knock knock.
I turn the water off and slide the curtain. Annoyance is thick in my skull; it refuses to leave me alone.
I'm wrapped in a towel and opening the door.
"Leave me alone." I say to the empty hallway, "I'm trying to settle for the night and I really don't need you bothering me right now." My words came out harsher than I anticipatied but, as usual, it doesn't give me a vocal response.
I close the door. I plug in the blowdryer and click it on.
Knock knock knock
I shout over the blow dryer "Go away!"
I don't know why I told it to leave, it's not like it can leave. it's trapped here.
Knock knock knock
It always knocks in three. I don't respond. It'll get bored eventually, and when it does I'll comfortably settle for the night. My hair is tangled.
Knock knock
I click the blowdryer off. Two? Did it knock two times? That's different.
Knock
Was that the third knock or a seperate one? Is it counting down? It's always been so compliant with it's three knocks. The pit in my stomach deepens. I find it easy living with a spirit that does the same thing day after day but this is different. Three, two, one...
Yes, I decide it is counting down. It's never done that before.
It's never done that before. That's never before been done.
My gaze slides to the silent door.
For once, I wish it wouldn't leave me alone.
