I Loved, I Lost, I Lived

I did not know the exact moment my heart broke. It did not shatter with noise. It cracked quietly, like a cup left too long in hot water. One day, I was still holding love, and the next, I was holding memory. When they left, the room felt smaller. The walls leaned in as if they wanted answers I did not have. I replayed our last conversation again and again, hoping it would change. It never did. The words stayed sharp. The silence stayed louder. For weeks, I lived on the floor. Not always literally, but my spirit stayed there. I stopped answering calls. Food tasted like paper. Sleep came only to remind me of what I lost. I blamed myself for everything. For loving too much. For not being enough. For believing promises spoken with ease. Pain became my routine. I woke with it. I carried it through the day. At night, it slept beside me. Friends said time heals. I hated that sentence. Time did nothing but stretch the hurt. Then one morning, something small happened. I noticed the light through my window. It was warm, patient. It did not ask me to be okay. It simply arrived. That was the first day I did not cry before noon. Healing did not come like a miracle. It came like dust settling. Slowly. Almost unseen. I started walking in the evenings, even when my chest felt tight. I started writing things I would never send. I let the pain speak without correcting it. Some days, I fell back. I heard their name. I smelled their scent on a stranger. The wound opened again. But this time, I did not panic. I learned that recovery is not the absence of pain. It is the courage to sit with it without drowning. I forgave myself first. That was the hardest part. I stopped calling my softness a weakness. I stopped wishing I loved less. I realized the breakup did not mean I failed. It meant I survived something real. One day, I laughed. It surprised me. The sound felt unfamiliar in my mouth. But it was mine. I did not rush it away. Now, when I look back, I no longer see only loss. I see the version of me that stayed. The one who got up. The one who learned how to breathe again. My heart is not the same. It carries scars. But it also carries wisdom. I know now that love can break you, and still leave you stronger. I did not recover by forgetting them. I recovered by finding myself where they once stood.
