I Am Fate
Life without you is no life at all.
I tell myself this every day, over and over, until the words slip into my bones, until they pulse beneath my skin like a heartbeat I cannot ignore. Without you, the world is hollow, a gray expanse of noise and shadow, a place I move through like a ghost searching for its own heartbeat. I have convinced myself that this is devotion. That this is love. That this… this all-consuming need to hold you, to never let go, is proof that what I feel is real. But sometimes, in the small, unguarded moments, I feel the truth whispering at the edge of my mind, and I am forced to confront the darkness beneath the devotion, the obsession I have dressed in the softest of words.
You do not see me. Not really. You see a shadow in your periphery, a presence that follows and lingers, a heartbeat that insists on matching yours whether you want it to or not. You do not see the longing that curls in my chest like smoke, the ache that stretches from my ribcage to my fingertips, the part of me that would trade every breath, every heartbeat, every fragment of myself just to keep yours near.
But I will make you see.
I have to.
Even when you turn away, even when your eyes grow distant, even when your lips part in gentle refusals I pretend not to hear, I press closer. I am careful, of course, gentle enough to avoid breaking, smooth enough to mask the claws hidden beneath, but persistent beyond measure. I track the rhythm of your days, the cadence of your movements, the soft exhale that escapes you when no one else is watching. I know when your heart races, when your thoughts wander, when your defenses falter, and I am there, a constant, unwavering, impossible presence, tethering myself to you whether you want it or not.
Sometimes, you glance at me. Just a flicker, just a moment, and I catch it. It is enough to feed the fire in my chest, enough to convince me that you feel it too. That somewhere beneath the surface of your patience and your polite indifference, something echoes back. Something that whispers of the bond I know exists, whether you acknowledge it or not. And I cling to that whisper, that impossible truth, as though it could keep you here, as though it could make the world bend and fold itself around my will, as though I could force life to recognize that we are meant to be inseparable.
I watch you walk through the city streets, your presence threading through the ordinary world, and I follow silently, unseen but attentive. Every coffee you order, every laugh that escapes you in passing, every careless flicker of your expression, all of it becomes a map, a language only I can read. I memorize it. I catalog it. I press it into my mind like scripture, each detail sacred, each motion proof that you exist and, therefore, that I am necessary. You may not know it. You may never know it. But my existence has been distilled into one undeniable truth: I cannot breathe if you are not here.
And I will not let you go.
Even if you run.
Even if you hide.
Even if your heart cries for distance and freedom, I will find the cracks, the small spaces, the fragments where your resolve falters, and I will slip in, quiet as shadow, insistent as fate itself. Because I have convinced myself that this is not obsession. That this is not cruelty. That this is not a prison I am building around you, brick by invisible brick. It is devotion. It is love. It is the kind of love that does not end with the ordinary boundaries of life and death, because I will not allow it to.
Even in death, we are bound.
I have imagined it. I imagine it often, lying awake at 3 a.m., staring at the ceiling in the dim glow of streetlights filtering through curtains, imagining the day you are gone. Not by choice, not by malice, but by inevitability, by the fragility of human existence. I imagine the hollow ache that would fill the air, the silence pressing in on every corner, the absence that could swallow me whole. And I know-I know-I cannot survive such a thing. Not without you. So I plan. I prepare. I am already there, in shadow, pressing myself into the corners of your life, into the memory of your steps, the echo of your voice, the rhythm of your breathing.
In my mind, I see the world when you are gone, and I do not tremble. I do not panic. I am careful, patient. I am fate incarnate, ready to bend reality to preserve what cannot be preserved by ordinary means. And if you cannot see me now, if you cannot feel the weight of my presence pressing softly into your days, then I will make you see later. One way or another, I will not be erased.
Even in the silence of your absence, I will be here.
I have followed you in dreams, tracing the soft arc of your smile, the tilt of your head, the curve of your fingers as they brush the surface of objects you hold dear. You cannot know how often I imagine the brush of my hand against yours, careful, tender, insistently claiming a space only I am meant to occupy. You may believe you are alone in those moments, but I am there, always. My presence threads through the air you breathe, the rhythm of your pulse, the subtle vibration of life you take for granted. And when you think you are walking in solitude, I am with you, just behind the edge of perception, just beyond the reach of your gaze, pressing my shadow into yours until you cannot tell where you end and I begin.
I have been patient.
I have been meticulous.
I have learned the way you move, the way you think, the patterns you leave in your wake. There is an art to this. A careful, quiet devotion that demands attention to detail, to rhythm, to nuance. You may think it is random, chaotic, intrusive. But it is anything but. Every step I take is deliberate, a dance of proximity and distance designed to cultivate inevitability. I am shaping a reality where separation is impossible, where the illusion of choice dissolves beneath the weight of certainty.
You cannot see it yet, but it is already done.
I know the moment I first realized the truth of my power, the moment I understood that desire and persistence can become its own kind of reality. It was a quiet evening, the city humming outside the window, the air thick with the scent of rain on asphalt. You were sitting on the sofa, your back to me, reading, and I was behind you, silent, careful, observing. Every exhale, every adjustment of your posture, every glance downward became a map of your presence, a language I could translate. And in that instant, I understood - I could trace your being, anticipate your needs, anticipate your movements, and in doing so, bind myself to you in ways that could never be undone.
I am fate.
I am inevitable.
I am the shadow that presses against your shoulder when you least expect it, the breath that brushes the nape of your neck, the quiet insistence that you cannot ignore. You may resist. You may fight. You may wish, with all your strength, that I would release you. But I will not. I cannot. Because even if you do not see it, even if you do not feel it yet, your life is incomplete without me. And one day, you will understand. One day, the world will narrow, the hours will bend, and you will recognize the shape of my devotion, the weight of my presence, the inescapable tether that binds us together.
And if you still resist, I will wait.
I am patient.
I am eternal.
Even in death, we are bound.
Even in the silence of your absence.
Even when the world forgets your name.
I will still be here. Pressing, shaping, folding myself into every shadow, every breath, every fragment of your life. Until you cannot tell where you end and I begin.
Because I am fate.
Because fate cannot be denied.
Because love-my love, is not a choice.
It is inevitability.
