"What’s so damn funny?"

I couldn’t see anything to laugh about.

"You are darling" she giggled behind her hand. "You should have seen the expression on your face!"

Another explosion of giggles burst from her chest and I felt the first twinges of a smile twitch my lips. She’d had always had that effect on me.

It was her giggle that had first drawn my attention to her.

Then the tears came. She would never giggle like that anymore or make me laugh again.

I turned off the DVD and mourned my young wife, cruelly taken from me by cancer.
