First Trip to Mars
“Hey Barbara! when are we going to take off and have that weekend that we are always talk about.”
“Chad, first of all we're not always talking about it, you are. Second what about my husband and your wife?”
“Barbara, they are adults, they can take care of themselves.”
Barbara just laughs. “Better get in there. He is waiting for you.”
Chad turns, opens up the door and walks in. He walks right up to the big desk and salutes.
“Pres. Jones, Major Chad Johnson reporting as ordered Sir.”
The president returns the salute.
“Now stop that Chad! How many times do I have to tell you. When it is just you and I it is Chad and Peter, no saluting and no formalities. We have known each other too long. Now sit down we have work to do, and leave my secretary alone she is happily married.”
Chad sits down.
“I'm going to let you in on a top-secret project today. How would you like to be the commander of the first passenger ship to Mars? We have been working on this project for almost 2 years and it is almost ready. We have decided we want you to be the commander and you will choose your senior officers. There will be 200 civilians going with you. The Rev. Andy Graham will be going with you. He will be in charge of the civilians.”
Chad was sitting there with his mouth open. “Are you serious Jim. I would love to do that. I know just the people I want for my senior officers. Can the senior officers picked the people that will be working under them? Isn't Andy Graham a descendant of the great Billy Graham the great evangelist of the 20th century?”
“We are serious Chad. Yes your senior staff can pick the rest of their staff. You are right about Adam. I believe Billy Graham was his great great grandfather but don't quote me on it. That was one of the reasons why he was chosen to be in charge of of this first settlement on Mars.”
“There are four ships being built in secrecy on the far side of the moon. The first will be set to take off in about one year. We already have a list of about 1000 people that want be on that first flight. Within the next three months we will whittle it down to the 200 civilians that will go. The flight will take about six months. And every time a new flight lands on Mars the flight that have been there we'll head back to earth. The crew of that flight will get about three months leave before they fly another ship to Mars. Each ship will have about six floors of cabins that can be taken apart and the supplies used to build houses on Mars. “
Chad says “I can have the senior staff put together in about two weeks. Give them a month to get the people under them together. We will be ready when you are.”
One year later the officers and staff were all assembled and ready to go and also the civilians were being loaded into the rocket ship. Pres. Jones hands Chad a DVD. He tells Chad to play the DVD one month into the flight. It will be self explanatory. Peter and Chad shake hands and Chad goes into the rocket and the door closes. Peter goes into a safe building nearby to watch the takeoff with the staff. All of a sudden it feels like an earthquake than the rocket slowly ascends into the heavens. It gained speed in a hurry and the first rocket ship to Mars is on its way.
Every morning Chad gets on the communication system and talks to everybody on the ship and gives all the announcements. On the third day as he was headed up to the flight deck. A young girl about 12 years old comes up to Chad and says “I want to be a ship's captain someday, can I watch you and learn how to do it, Capt. Rogers.
Chad looked down at her and says “Does your mother know you're here, and does she know what you want.”
The girl says. “My name is Kayleigh, Mom knows I want to be a ship's captain. She does not know I'm talking to you though.”
Chad said “Well Kayleigh, I think the first thing we should do is go talk to your mother and if she agrees then I guess you can be my assistant. You have to agree to do everything I tell you to. And if I tell you to leave an area you have to do it without question.”
Kayleigh said “ Okay, let's go, she is just down at the end of this hallway.”
So after the talk they all agree and Kayleigh becomes Chad's assistant. Everywhere Chad goes Kayleigh can be seen walking right next to him. And learning all about rocket ships.
One month into the flight as Chad was finishing the morning announcements. He said there is one last thing. “Just before we left the moon Pres. Jones gave me a DVD and said to play it for everybody one month into our trip. Well our trip is one month old now, so I shall play the DVD for you now. And now here's a president of the United States Peter Jones.
The next thing everybody sees President Jones sitting at his desk in the Oval office. “I want to wish all you people of the Mars one rocket ship a safe trip. And I hope you have a good life on Mars. I wish I was going with you. You are the ones that will start a settlement for the United States on Mars and I want you to start a settlement not only with democracy but also with religion. That is why we have the Rev. Adam Graham going along with you. He will be your religious leader I have talked to him many times and I know that he has really been looking forward to this trip. He will be there to talk to you and advise you about anything and everything that you might need to know. And please when you set up settlement on Mars make sure that God is there with you. Rev. Graham will do his best but he cannot do it without your help. So I hope you all will help him and make this a great settlement on Mars So in the future we can make it grow and grow. I am counting on all of you. Take care and have a good trip and I want you to know that I am praying for all you every night when I say my evening prayers. May God go with you.”
The screen goes dark and everybody goes back to their assignments.
The rocket ship lands on Mars exactly on schedule. After they land the communications officer is talking to earth and letting them know that Mars one is on the ground on Mars. All of a sudden all the communications with Earth goes dead.
Chad gets on the ships communications and announces that everybody is to be off to ship in 20 minutes and gathered together on the ground for prayer of thanks that will be led by Rev. Graham.
20 min. later everyone is standing around in their space suits and Rev. Graham starts to pray and thank God for getting them there safely. All of the sudden it feels like an earthquake. Everyone looks up and the ship is sinking into the ground within about 2 min. the ship is completely underground. Then all of a sudden a lake forms and a few rivers start flowing. All of a sudden bushes and trees and all kinds of stuff start growing. Then they see animals running around, every kind of animal imaginable. Birds are flying in the air. Fish start swimming in the water. One at a time they start taking off the spacesuits and they realize there is fresh air. All of the sudden a big voice comes booming out of the clouds in the sky.
“THIS IS THE NEW GARDEN OF EDEN. TAKE CARE OF IT AND IT WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU. YOUR OLD WORLD HAS BEEN DISTROYED. THEY WOULD NOT LISTEN TO MY WARNINGS. DO WHAT I ASK AND YOU WILL HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED. DON'T FORGET TO HONOR THE LORD YOUR GOD. IF YOU DO THIS YOU WILL HAVE A LONG AND PROPEROUS LIFE IN THE NEW PROMISE LAND. I THE LORD YOU GOD HAS SPOKEN.
