Don't Blame Me

“You can’t blame me!” I protested, aggrieved.

“Of course I can.” she retorted. “It’s your own silly fault.”

“That’s hardly fair, is it? I mean, it wasn’t all my own doing.” I said earnestly, hoping she would understand.

“Oh, so you’re saying I’m to blame?” Her voice rose several octaves as she grew annoyed.

“To an extent that’s exactly what I’m saying.” I told her bluntly.

“Explain yourself!” she demanded

“It’s all very simple.” I began. “If you were not the wonderful person you are, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with you.” I told her, again.

Then she smiled.
