Distant Heart

"It's time for your departure", her tearful eyes looked at him saying, "Come back soon."

He kissed her forehead, when, "Major, the vehicle is ready." echoed a voice at the doorstep of their home.

His heart was filled with happiness to serve his country while his emotions could control not the pain in his eyes, as he had to leave his fiancée, just before the day of their Wedding.

Distance by time and miles parted them, yet closer their love grew as the thoughts of togetherness, they shared.

Months passed by and still there was not an information regarding his return.

It was raining heavily outside, there was a knock on the door, as Siji ran and opened, her restless eyes turned somber, when she found not him, but his friend.

“Nick!", he paused and then continued, "Could you come with me, please?" Siji's heart pounded in fear when Nick's friend spoke the way, she never wished to expect. Yet, she went along with him, praying hard, when he stopped in front of the church.

Siji, while stepping in, flooded with the memories she shared with Nick, closed her eyes tight to envision the same.

By a gentle touch, she slowly opened to see Nick in front of her kneeling down, "My true love, Will you marry me, now?"
