Distance

It was my last night in the country, and so she came over to spend it with me and to encrypt herself in the deepest of my deep. The night was duly painted with pure ecstasy of cuddling, piggybacking, mock fight, caressing and its apogee, loving making. While she clang unto me on the bed, I felt it - her soul connecting with mine and the spirit bearing witnesses that this was a union forged in heaven to withstand the pressure in the terrestrial space as well as stand triumphantly above all the negative shots aimed at it by any earthly forces. I said it out in the most passionate way I could "you are mine, baby. You are mine. This won't be the last of us". She grinned and held me closer till we both sacked out. Soon the morning came and it brought along with it the dawn of reality that I was indeed leaving. She couldn't handle it, I reckoned. She then exploded like the news was coming to her for the first time, and reduced herself to a shred in the hysterical way she let loose of the tears. Seeing her well soaked in the pool of her tears, I couldn't it help it either. I wept bitterly. I held her so close to me and the rest moments were spent in silence. "God be with you" she prayed in a quaking voice as she bode me farewell. I glanced constantly at the side mirrors to catch a sight of her standing by the roadside till the uber took a turn to the expressway. Fast forward to the present, it's quite strange we hardly talk or chat. Little or nothing did I know where things went so wrong that they can't be fixed. Anytime I see our pictures together, I heave a sigh. Well, such is the fate of a beautiful love that's destined for the glorious hours of blissful conjugal journey but somehow cut short along the way by its notorious ageless enemy: distance. I guess she is happy now and, maybe, I am too.
