Delayed Arrival

It was touch and go.

The new young mother clung desperately to the new young father’s hand, neither daring to look at the other.

The air crackled with tension.

Medical personnel rushed around in a co-ordinated ballet of practiced routine. Barked orders were heeded without question. Every person in the small delivery room knew their role. They were masters and experts. It was always a matter of life and death that they got it right

At last a new-born infant’s wail rent the air. It was the most magical sound.

Tears of relief and joy were shed.

Relieved smiles all round.
