Advisor Universal

by M. A. Qaiyum

Periyappa had a close and leisurely look at his own reflection in the mirror.

He fondled his graying moustache with self love and ascended the stairs. Upstairs, he reached the great easy chair his staff had presented him on his retirement. He set the chair at a location affording a close view of the street and its leisurely traffic. Also the interior of the front house whenever its front door was open.

His wife was in the kitchen, his daughter at college and his son far away in U.S. for studies. He recalled the felicitations he had received at his farewell meet. They were most flattering and he spent an hour every day savoring their memory. The rest of the day he would spend day dreaming.

His wife was lovely and they were a loving couple. Yet there were lots of issues whereon he must give her “wholesome” advice. She must shorten her hair and dye them. Some daily exercise is a must. For him too. He must start. The sooner the better.

The daughter was dynamic, beautiful, best behaved and a joy to pamper still more. Yet she needed a lot of advice. One guy in her class was in love with her. He was rich and well behaved. Would be a treasure to own as a mappillai, bridegroom. Yet he is inexperienced. He believes people readily, needs exercise to avoid fattening, also he needs to spend lesser time on his phone.

Not one but several beauties among his daughter’s classmates were doting on him. He must be speaking to them more often consult him some time.

The house was his. Just one family rented two rooms. The rent was OK. But they need to be reminded of less wastage of water and electricity.

The grandson, nine years of age fashions himself on Dennis the Menace. He comes up and plays chess and always defeats him. He needs to be addressed. In the opposite house a lady by herself. She has no children of her own, she is barren. She wants the address to a fertility doctor. But afraid she might herself play a rule. Must talk to her to be good to him, no more. Folks in the street, they are rowdies. Must caution them. Buying vegetables etc. as his son has no time for the job. His only friend Bhaskar, defeats him in cards. Must learn how to conquer him and defeat him. His wife is a nonstop chatterbox. Must control her and discipline her. She might slap him! As she does to her husband. But she is good in counseling the temple secretary, who is increasing pressure for donations. Must caution him.

So many people, so much advice to dole out. Finally, municipal Mistry must be tackle. Garbage collection is something Mistry won’t care for. Diplomatic tackling. Hundreds of ideas. Everybody annoys him. Needs a formula to win their hearts.
