A Raining Secret

A Raining Secret

By Patrick D Collier

I've seen her before once in a grocery store but mostly right here at my favorite coffee shop. She always sits alone with shades on. She orders nothing more but black coffee and spends the rest of the time at the coffee shop texting eagerly on her cell phone. I always wondered who was on the other end of those text messages and I wished at times it was me. She is tall with high heels on and average with them off. Milky white skin with pink lips and eyes I never see covered with dark shades that make her dark. I wondered how my black hands would stain her white skin? I never been with a white woman sexually but always have been curious. I wonder if I go up to her and ask to sit with her would she be afraid? or would she smile indifferent? My coffee is growing cold like the rain and the wind outside the coffee shop windows hitting the shop heavy. I notice she doesn't have an umbrella. I guess there is a God, I walked up to her with intentions to see her eyes and a smile. Hi, it's coming down hard outside. She replied yea and I left my umbrella in my car. I have one we could share if you like. She replied I can't. I said why not? she said I don't even know your name. Then she got up and walked to the door and turned back to me pulled her shades half way to her nose wow green eyes like jade jewelry and she smiled. Then walked out the door in all that rain slowly with no fear, I whispered "sexy". The next, morning I went back to the same coffee shop and sit in my same chair ordered my same Hazelnut dark coffee and waited for her. She walked in wearing heels making her tall and shades making her dark. She ordered this time not coffee she ordered wine. Why wine? in the morning. She then started drinking and never took out her cell phone for the normal texting. I have been watching her for months afraid of her beauty and stilled in her being of who she is, unknown to me. A woman I do not know but only see she got up and started walking straight towards me. My heart beat is all I could hear along with her high heels which made her taller and seeing her shades that made her dark. Hi, the sun is out today she said to me. I replied it is and look you have your umbrella with you this time. She smiled and got up and started to walk away again I had to stop her this time I stood up and said, hey I’m Julian. She smiled and said, I'm single! are you? I got quiet and my heart was racing like a horse. I replied I am. She then placed a piece of paper on the table and walked out with a smile in them same heels that made her taller and shades that made her dark. I picked up the piece of paper and wow, it was her number. I smiled and asked for the check. That entire night I texted her lying in my bed with visions of her. She never responded so I begin to think it was a fake number. Then started to doubt myself saying things like Julian yea right, she's out of your league in many areas. So, I ripped up the piece of paper out of anger and went to sleep hoping to dream of her. Morning came I got dressed and glanced at my cell phone that read 0 text messages. I got to my same coffee shop ordered my same hazelnut dark coffee and waited for her as always. Time flew and she would usually be here by now damn, I guess my black hands tainted her white skin without even touching her. Then my cell phone had a text message it was from her number she given me, she replied Hi, the weather is unpredictable today Julian. I started texting back with a smile and thinking now I'm finally on the other side or her text messages. It feels good. I replied yes! the weather is always only a prediction and what's your name? she replied with a smiling emoji followed by the name Secret. I sent back a text, Secret that's a unique name. She texted back so is Julian she then next called me I picked up the call and her voice sounded so sweet and soft. Hi, Julian promise me something for the next 7 days that when it rains you will come to me at the address that is sent to you in your text messages. And that you will make love to me without falling in love with me. Can you promise me this? I grew sleepy thinking I was dreaming but I forgot I haven't touched my Hazelnut dark coffee so caffeine hasn't hit me yet, but this did. Energy rain through my body and I replied, I promise. She hung up and sent her address to my cell phone. The coffee shop TV was on and the news cast came own with strong predictions for rain for next 7 days. I smiled and looked outside and it started pouring fat rain drops. I got a text message from Secret soon as the rain came the text read, don't break your promise. Check please! is what I told the waitress. I arrived too her apartment door and before I could knock! she said in a beautiful tone, come in its open. I opened the door and the rain grew with thunder and the only thing in her apartment was a big beautiful bed that I knew for the next 7 days would be my best site. We made love only once for some reason she would grow tired and sleep. I would kiss her on the forehead and leave quietly as she slept. The rain never stopped the next six days and nor did our sex. On the seventh day I brought coffee from the coffee shop hoping it would give her energy and make her smile. I get to the door and it's locked! so I knock and no response I then send her several text messages still no reply. The coffee grew cold and so did my patience. Next, I did something out of rage I kicked in the door and the bed I always seen that we would mess up with sex was made up neatly with a letter placed perfect on the pillow with my name on it. I walked up to the pillow and picked up the letter and it read. Julian thank you and my real name isn't secret it's Shyanne. What you made love to wasn't so beautiful look around Julian is what the letter asked me to do. I did and on the floor was a wig and a makeup kit and pills over 50 bottles worth and pamphlets that read Cancer on them. The letter continued to read now you see me and know. Julian I only had a week to live stage 4 Cancer works rapidly but I enjoyed every moment with you. In your sleep you would whisper about your black hands tainting my white skin. I wait to feel them in the afterlife, drank some coffee for me and whenever it rains think of me. Love your Secret. I cried with a smile and then it started to rain.

The End
