A Boy's Doggy History
A father decided to live a solitary life after twelve years of happy marriage, leaving his wife and a son. The abandoned wife was ill and only had few days to live. The son is aged fourteen and never lived with anybody else other than with his parents. His grandparents, both mother's and father's side, have lived and perished in a distant state years before his parents' separation. His parents have different skin colors, but he didn't mind going to school since his younger years. When his mother died two weeks later since his father left them, he went to his father's place and asked for some help. He was given a certain amount of money for his mother's cremation and felt thankful about it. The father is renting a bungalow, only five miles away from where his wife and son live.
The father has been keeping a loyal dog by his side for the past three years and the dog knows his wife and son too for staying in the same house in recent years. The dog was trained by the family to watch over the wife whenever the father goes to work and the son while in school.
One day, the father left his rented house and went to work, but never returned. The dog was left inside the bungalow for seven days with some food on the kitchen floor. The dog knows where to find the bag of dried dog food inside the house and so it survived the whole week. The dog waited for its master day and night, peeking at the window thirty times a day. However, its master never looked back. On the eighth day, the son went to his father's rented bungalow to visit him and found the dog still alive. The son was calling his father's name from the outside, but nobody stepped out of the house. The son doesn't have a house key so he forced his way to open a glass window by breaking a piece of glass and set the dog free. The dog was relieved upon seeing his master's son again.
The dog stayed in the son's house, the only place the boy has been keeping from the time his mother died. One rainy day, the boy was talking to the dog: "I already started working when my mother died. I stopped studying for now, but I will return to school some other time to finish my high school." The dog can sense what the boy was trying to convey.
Everyday, the boy has been working everywhere. He was hired in a construction site for only about a week with no legal papers proving he is already eighteen. The following week he went to a grocery store, worked as an overnight stocker after being hired by the store manager, realizing the boy's situation. Only for two months the boy was employed because of legal issues. Any teen at least aged sixteen can be hired by an employer provided there is a parent's written consent allowing the underaged applicant to work.
After three months of continuous work, the boy was unfortunately evicted from the house where his mother left him.
The following month, the boy found a room for rent leased at $400/month and he stayed there with the dog for several months. There are other rooms rented by other persons inside the big house being rented. The boy's room is the only room with a pet. The dog doesn't want to be left alone inside the boy's rented room and so wherever the boy goes, the dog goes.
In the succeeding months, the boy only worked for paying his monthly rent, saving some money for his schooling, his regular meals and dog's limited daily food. Everyday, he goes out with the dog enjoying the morning sunlight. The boy and the dog have been swimming for at least an hour in a nearby beach resort -- only two miles away from where the boy is currently renting. The good part?... He was hired as a watcher, not as a lifeguard, by the resort owner. He only needs to watch all swimmers in the beach each day during his ten hour-work, standing and walking around near the shore. He was given $5/hour and so he started earning $250/week for completing the whole week-work. Beside him is his dog (watching him too and every swimmer), making sure everybody will be safe.
One year later, the boy returned to school. He finished high school after four years while still working in the beach resort from early afternoon until evening. He enrolled himself online for a college degree. He made it with the dog still beside him on his life's solo journey.
One day after six more years, the dog died from dehydration and exhaustion while saving a drowning kid from a sinking pontoon, struck by lightning mid-afternoon of that stormy day...

The boy at the present time is now a family man. He bought a dog of the same breed and color, named the same name he has given his old deceased dog that helped him survive his solitary and hapless years as a boy.
