Not Allowed

I want to hear the school bell ring,
But I’m not allowed
I want to hear the laughs of the pupils,
But I’m not allowed,
I want to learn about the British and how they conquered half the world,
I want to learn about the earth and how it came to life,
But I’m not allowed,
In the future I want to become a doctor maybe a lawyer or a designer,
Travel across the globe, to Paris, London, New York
All I ask for is to be able to pick up a book,
Read through it,
Learn new words,
Experience new places
But they say I can’t,
Mamma, Pappa, brother,
They say is because I’m a girl
Girls don’t go to school
They stay home,
Wash the dishes, cook, clean
Mama says ‘stop dreaming my child
If you go to school who’s going to fetch the water’
My dreams are just false hope
I can’t go to school
Because I’m not allowed.
