The Most Beutiful Lie

I first met you in a bar,
After I admired your car
We were both so young and free,
I just wanted you to notice me.
As we danced to and fro,
You said that I should know,
That you never wanted to let me go

The most beautiful lie,
Was when you promised to never make me cry
That you would be with me for forever and a day
That you would stay, for now and always
The most beautiful lie,
Was when you promised never to say good-bye
That you would always come back to me
I don’t want to believe the truth that I see

On our wedding day,
You said you’d be beside me in every way
As we danced to and fro,
You said you would never let me go
Through sickness and health,
Through poorness and wealth,
That we would be together,
For always and forever

The most beautiful lie,
Was when you promised to never make me cry
That you would be with me for forever and a day
That you would stay, for now and always
The most beautiful lie,
Was when you promised never to say good-bye
That you would always come back to me
I don’t want to believe the truth that I see

On our honeymoon,
You said forever was a day too soon,
So for forever and a day,
We’d be together for now and always
You said we would tour the seven seas, Just you and me
You promised that for the rest of your life,
You’d make me proud to be your wife

The most beautiful lie,
Was when you promised to never make me cry
That you would be with me for forever and a day
That you would stay, for now and always
The most beautiful lie,
Was when you promised never to say good-bye
That you would always come back to me
I don’t want to believe the truth that I see

You left me on a sunny day,
Saying we’d be together for now and always
But now I’m wearing your wedding band,
Holding a folded flag in my hand
As they lower your casket in the ground,
Our son doesn’t make a sound
He salutes you as we say goodbye
Tears cloud my eyes as I start to cry

The most beautiful lie,
Was when you promised to never make me cry
That you would be with me for forever and a day
That you would stay, for now and always
The most beautiful lie,
Was when you promised never to say good-bye
That you would always come back to me
I don’t want to believe the truth that I see
The most beautiful lie,
Was when you promised to never make me cry
