Am I Worthy

Am I Worthy?
This thought comes to me as I lay on the battlefield
Those who have come before me and are now just
a memory, a specter, a myth
Will they find me worthy?

This battle
What was it for?
Did it really matter?
So many battles, so many friends lost
Will they find me worthy?

My father, a great warrior, a great man
So noble, so caring
Will he approve of my life?

A lone figure comes my way
Is he coming for me? Or someone else?
I cannot rise, only wait
Will he too judge me?
Should I care?
I recognize that face
Father, Am I Worthy?

Spoken candidly, the words of a soldier are heart-breaking, yet very real. A touching poem, ....that leaves one always asking why, what was it for? Well done!
