Xc Meet

The smell of grass and anticipation is in the air,
as we light up our ambitious flairs,
And hear the guns go off

And it is hard to run,
But you wouldn't stop if you could,
Because that's what life is about

Snow cones are being sold left and right,
Next to hot dog stands,
And younger siblings sit on parents' laps,
Or hit each other with rubber bands

And you can look at the war memorial,
Look at the statues,
Look at the girls,
And look at the military flags,
But look first ahead so you can see your time,
And cheer as you go through the finish line
