January

Unbroken skies, like an untitled document,
Wind clattering the chimes frantically,
Earth frozen in standstill time,
Branches chatter together on black trees,
Little birds gather in the snow to discuss
Dreams, and seeds, and leaves,

I am of a winter mind,
Holding pace with the hours of darkness,
The sluggish streams choked with ice,
The heartbeat of the creatures
Asleep beneath the white, crystalline blanket.

Hold this light, however brief,
Let it flash and sparkle,
Show your every facet,
Then rest. The days pass to night,
With little change.

Soon, the light will return,
The land will thaw, and life will grow again.
Until then, sleep in dark chambers, huddled against the rising storm.
