In Spite of Light

At night
That's when I can find the neon signs

Neon signs are everywhere
Cloaked by the light of day
I move on from my dark self
Every morning
Assigned to my daily routine
Where these signs are hidden in the light

The light of heaven is nothing in comparison
To those neon signs

The dark is so enlightening
Everything that doesn't need to exist
Will diminish
Every wish will light up
Like a falling star

I'm looking at this light, high
and I know this is a highlight
In the dark, I can see things quite clearly
I can look into the depths of me
Things shine and they shine

how loud sounds
beg to be found

The scars will fade to black
As they are far away from myself
Moving away at the speed of light
Tonight
My daily body will become a nightingale
And sing the words on those neon signs

Flying a message in the darkness
Like lightning in a bottle

The seductive power of nightime. Puts me in mind of Taxi Driver - one of my all time favourite movies, nearly all of it shot in the city at night.
