To My Ever Lasting Valentine

Returned Love
Returned Love
I've been awake but I was sleeping
Remained alive but I was still
And any happiness worth keeping
I couldn't easily fulfill

I was surviving but was drowning
My heart was beating but stayed back
Whatever joy that I was feeling
Was almost always under attack

I've eaten but I was hungry
Was independent but wasn't whole
Alone I handled what was needed
Tried to stay warm, but I was cold

MY life was filled with hills and valleys
I went through many ups and downs
But when I needed the one to rally
My special someone was not around

The person that I most required
Was living a completely different life
And what I mostly would desire
I couldn't make it come alive

When you came back, my heart re-started
And I began to come alive
And ever since, I've known the meaning
Of a fulfilling, joyful life
