Dreams About Us

I dreamt about us last night,
And what we could have been.
I dreamt about us last night,
And how we used to be.
So young and trusting,
So ready to make amends.

I dreamt about us last night,
Without the darkness in our souls.
I dreamt about us last night,
A future brighter than the stars.
So focused and safe,
So aimed on our goals.

I dreamt about us last night,
But there’s one thing I couldn’t shake.
I dreamt about us last night,
Spiraling into a dark abyss.
So feared and pained,
I had to force myself awake.

I had dreamt about us last night,
And how it used to be.
I had dreamt about us last night,
Lost amongst the sea.
So dead and dark,
So ready for release.

I had dreamt about us last night,
Readily thankful of the gift you gave.
I had dreamt about us last night,
And the effects of what you did to me.
Now so thankful and grateful,
For the life I’ve chosen to have.

I awoke to him this morning,
A bright smile on his face.
I awoke to him this morning,
My beacon of light in the night.
So warm and inviting,
So loving of me no matter the case.

I dreamt about us last night.
