Redemption From Main Street

Your lipstick screamed Jezebel,
Contrasting the midnight smoke colored
Corduroy skirt
you wore crooked as you promenaded down the Sunset Strip
How your piercing aqua eyes shot innocence but
the wrong men rubbed their hands together and thought their
Garbage can fantasies,
How they would honk car horns from Porsches and
make your mascara drip if you were
too tired to twirl your tongue
too tired to make a dream come true
But how in the orange glow of the avenue lights
Your stagger made the world that much brighter
Crying in my arms I wanted to take you home,
The minute you told me you were tired of men,
How I would have done anything to let you know
Johns would never love you like I could,
With a napkin from the cup holder I wiped away
your street facade as I stared lovingly behind the mask,
So working girl, I said laissez-faire,
You need a place to stay?
My lips wanted to embrace you the minute you
Murmured in amazement, “God yes”.
