The Month I Was Born
The rose did bend
upon the bush
of fear and pain
and denigration
petals shook
thorns did brake
while a tiny bud
prepared to die.
The wind took one last
breath and tore the bud
away, toward the earth,
to richer soil
and the promise of spring
