The Soiled Shirt

The sun beat down radiantly,
With sharpness unrestrained.
Wilted trees; parched land;
The village struggled to the core.
As she alighted her hut,
Approached a man in soiled shirt.
Frazzled hair and grisly beard;
Skin bone-dry and eyes scratched;
The world seemed to be against him,
So haggard and hopeless did he look!
He gazed left and then right,
Unsure which way his hopes lay.
Feeling pity on the poor soul,
A jar half-filled with water,
She offered the disheveled man.
His sunken eyes brightened,
While he clutched at the jar.
Smiled she as he drank to the brim.
She went inside; fetched a shirt,
As white as an angel’s wings; and,
Happily presented to the lost soul.
Tears welled down his cheeks;
Lips trembled, hands shook;
As he accepted her generosity.
He turned around, began to walk,
To a destination even now unknown.
She smiled as well as sighed;
Cheerful but confused nonetheless!

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

Sreedeep,, Welcome to Poetry soup I hope you enjoy the community. You'll find friendly poets who are ready to support and give positive feedback. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Other than that I will read, enjoy and comment with positive feedback. Remember, keep posting, stay in touch, TAP my shoulder when you have a new poem. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. You might find my support addictive. I've been a SOUP Poet for 6 years. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. I'm from Texas, How about you? Tell me a little about your poetic skills. I will enjoy following you and your poetry :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@
