An Eye For An Eye, Makes Us Only Blind

Generations come, generations go
Many praying to leave the world better
Than the ones who came before

In every single person there is bad
In every single person is good
We all harbor hate inside us
We all harbor love

Hate it causes blindness, bitterness and sting
It refuses to listen to reason
Leaves us crippled and mislead

Love it opens doorways to a better future
It listens with an open heart
Letting go of past inflictions
Letting a nation mend

With hate the wounds will remain infected
With the prejudices of so long ago
Never able to bandage the wounds inflicted
So the sores they continue to bleed

It only takes one person
One who is unafraid to shout to the masses
This hate must stop
So this hurt it can mend

Our ancestors before us knew a secret
One that kept them continuing living
Continuing to love

They knew to forgive but always remember the pain they survived
So that they could be sure to pass down to the future generations
Not the hate and intolerance
But all the love inside
All the good

It's time to honor their spirits
It's time to heal the pain
So all that the ones before us endured
Will never go in vain

Open up our ears and hearts
Shut out all the hate
For once listen with our hearts to hear
Instead of always hearing what our minds deep inside fear
