Traveling Without a Map

I slipped past the point of sadness,
into the depths of rage.
I turned the corner towards resentment
and found my lonely cage.

Locked the door on desperation
and threw away the key,
but burrowed into darkness,
where dread did wait for me.

Nestled up with disappointment
and fell asleep with fear.
I woke to sounds of weakness,
with disaster lurking near.

I’ve been searching for directions
to hope, courage, or love,
but all the signs are hidden
by gloomy clouds above.

So now I sit in darkness,
with silence all around.
Maybe I’ll just wait here.
Maybe I’ll be found.
