Open the Floodgates

Open the Floodgates
Huddled together like one thousand tears Or a million moons in one sky Hundreds of vehicles, wreckage galore Too many sad scenes make one cry… Cancer cells, heartache, delusions, and pain Or a million bags in the sea Bundles of flowers knotted too tight Packed immigrants yearn to be free… Colors too bright, the sun too intense Or a million ants in one pile Too many drugs, too much weight to support Too much hurt to allow one to smile… Too many feelings of pain and despair Or a million unwanted hates Freedom, dear freedom, a billion tears When it’s time to open the floodgates… 2nd Place Submission for: Pick-A-Title, Vol.30 Poetry Contest Sponsor: Edward Ibeh Date: 05-09-22

Meghan, your use of hyperbole as a poetic device is very powerful in depicting the kind of pain that can't be measured and feels so overwhelming. Really strong imagery throughout... I can just feel the tears waiting to have a chance to come pouring out. Such poignancy in "Too much hurt to allow one to smile…". As always, your poetry comes from the heart and touches deep emotions. Hugs and blessings ~ John
