Orpheus and Eurydice
That night the waters ceased their song,
as Orpheus left the world of dawn.
His lyre quivered, fierce yet slight,
a hymn that reached beyond the night.
Each trembling note was shaped with care
a plea to raise her from despair.
The shadows hushed - the Furies stilled
and Hades bent to hear his will.
“Come back with me" he murmured soft
“Let life reach what death has left behind.”
A quivering hand reached through the dark
and Eurydice faltered , almost there.
Follow close, and keep your steps aligned,
look not behind, or all hope may untwine.
Through shadowed halls and endless gloom,
their fragile bond was stretched like a thread of loom.
The threshold flames, the daylight near,
his chest beat hard with mounting fear.
He turned too soon—her face he found
then saw her fade without a sound.
She flowed away, delicate and lost
as the sky dimmed in quiet grief.
His lyre sang the pain in his chest
and the ground shuddered beneath his mourning.
Alone he walked with silence vast,
his heart a wound, his voice his last.
A love that tried to master fate
but vanished at the shadowed gate.
And still the river murmurs low
a tale of loss all mortals know:
of vows undone, of yearning deep,
and love the underworld must keep.
