Love Story for the Ages
He gazes softly down at her
noting her tired and weathered face.
He remembers the girl he once knew
with her delicate beauty and grace.
She remembers their first dance,
even recalls the words of the song,
as he held her in his arms
that seemed so capable and strong.
Her head is lying on his shoulder
as her hand rests on his arm,
conveying her trust and true affection
for the man who's kept her safe from harm.
You can see the tangible wisdom
of two lives lived long and well,
have to note the many deep wrinkles
and guess the stories those lines could tell.
These two have spent a lifetime together
forming a bond that nothing can sever,
a love story meant for the ages
that will last until the end of never.
