My Own Book

Life is a book. A book that is unlike any other.
You see... The pages are not written. They are lived.
We all have different stories.
Never knowing what is on the next page, we live the one that we are on now.
Friendship is a part of this book. It is something to be explored, experimented, perfected.
I have lived this friendship. I was there when no once else would be.
I listened when everyone else was sick of your words.
I was patient, when you gave me no reason to be.
Yet you run to a person who has shown you what they really are.
They have shown you that you are a mere word in their book, not a character.
The difference?
A word is just a word. A character is a discovered personality that the writer and reader
alike, fall in love with.
You run back to the beast that ate you like a field mouse and picked the bones out of its
teeth with its sharp claws.
You leave me. I didn't write you out of the pages. You slowly slipped off the pages. You
jumped into another book.
At first I was sad, but it took a character that is in many pages of my book, a character
who is many of my thoughts, a character that my heart discovered and loved with an
unconditional love...
My best friend helped me to see that I wasn't the problem. The pages of my book are not
the problem.
It got the wheels turning and a pen? Who needs a pen? The book goes on even when
the ink runs dry.
You left my book and jumped to someone else's because you don't have one of
your own.
You are one of the poor books who lost one very important thing,
something that keeps all books and it's contents together to make a story.
You don't have story.
What did you lose?
What are you missing?
Your spine.
As they say, Bird of Feather Flock Together.
I am definitely not the same type of bird.
We are made out of two different types of feathers.
I am a ground dweller, a bird who enjoys the stability of the ground.
I am not flighty. I know where I dwell.
That is the page on my book at the moment.
I do not know what the next one will be, so I will live on this one.
You will jump from story to story for the rest of your life, for lack of your own.
You spineless creature...
I will go on with my book, MY story, even though you're not in it.
It doesn't change the fact that my story goes on. The page will turn.
The difference between you and I? While you are being written into other people stories,
I won't be writing my own book...
I'll be living it, spine and all.
