Trapped

Never meant for this to happen
to be sealed and presently fasten.
I hear others around me talking
hardly can I see objects or people walking.
Laying in bed as if it was a cocoon
people say this is home this one room.
Can’t move my own body parts
only hear the sounds of people and carts.
The world is going on outside my door
hear only about people’s lives as they walk across the floor.
Trapped inside my body like a shell
even though on the outside and the inside I can feel.
Speaking I can not only sounds
only within my mind I am bound.
Food shoved or crammed in my mouth but I’m feed at meals
treated as if I have no mind there’s no big deal.
Years now have slipped away
still I only have my thoughts day by day.
People have nothing to say
for I am only a body and a job each in everyday.
A wish I could be in your shoes
the days wouldn’t be so blue
If it was only you
there would be plenty of things I would do.
I would sit and talk by your bedside
let you know about the weather the world on the outside.
Share moments of laughter and tears
so your life wouldn’t be empty through the years.
But that’s not going to happen
I am sealed and presently fastened.
I have only myself
to you I am like an object on a shelf.

Sandra, are you at a different poetry site? Because you left your poetry here at the Soup when you left us. Come back if only for a visit. Love, Carol
