Where Once

Where Once it was as perfect as it seemed
To perfect to be a dream
For dreams eventually end
And reality takes its place
Where you are left alone
Staring sadly at your own face
Where Once there was a star bright smile
Is only an empty canvas
On which a symbol of joy will never grace
For the lonely to hold the empty
To awake in the arms of a ghost
Like having a party for one
And you are the guest and host
Where Once was a hand to hold
Now there is only a shoulder cold
No one to cry with
No one to care
No one to laugh with
No one is there
Forget what you want to remember
Only remember what you want to forget
Where Once was certainty
There is only regret
The fairy tales have all died
No morning sun to arise at dawn
The dreams are all empty
The fantasy is all gone
Where Once upon a time
The future seemed so clear
Now the journey is frozen
Tainted with fear
Fear of the unknown
Fear of the truth
Fear of the lie
Where Once there was trust
There is now only a goodbye
