Again ...

Did I send you away?
Did I go off the beaten track?
Is there something I can say
To make you want to come back?

Was it something I did wrong?
Did I come on much too strong?
Or did I wait too long?

Should I tell you that I care?
Do I have to grow my hair?
That would be a real nightmare
     ... for me

See, I'm me the way I am
And it makes me so much stronger
To love and let my love last longer

I really hated to see you go
And it hurts that I don't know
What I did to make you run
I was having so much fun
Weren't you?

I think I know what made you flee
Beyond the years you couldn't see
I really thought we could be
     ... a nice couple

But now I see
It was just me
     ... Again

My heart will wait for you a while
I'm still trying to find my smile
The one you took when you decided it should end

Right now I'm thinking of you
I hope you're thinking of me too
Not as a joke, but as someone
... who has touched your life somehow
          ... Fondly

You left as quickly as you came
Like sun after a rain
The warmth and light
You've taken with you too

I trust you'll find your way some day
If not to me, as nice a place
And thoughts of me will bring a smile upon your face

Oh well, God knows better who he pairs
Although to me it's hardly fair
To have been given and then taken from me you

Someday soon I know He'll let me
Forget you ever met me

It's okay
That's just the way
We cycle in and out of life
We learn
     we grow
          we hurt
               we mend
Or at least we pretend
It meant nothing from beginning to the end

Oh hell, I lied
I won't forget
It wasn't long
But still you meant
A great deal to me and I will miss you so

So if we ever meet again
My nightly prayers do protend
I'll search your eyes for telltale signs
Of thoughts of me you left behind

And at the moment that we meet
Reunion oh so bittersweet
You'll smile and my heart will break
     ... Again
