Youthful times
The days of being small in size came back to me
After growing up to be six feet three
I could always get away with so much as a child
From being sweet or sometimes wild
I remember doing things as a little boy
Simple things that brought me joy
From treehouses to homemade skates
When the school bell rang, I couldn't wait
Home, I went, excited to be free
I remember the time, shortly after three
My pals and I were out on parole
To get into mischief was our number one goal
Off to the treehouse with all of my friends
Pedaling hard with my worn-out Schwinn
The simple life is carefree with no worry
Supper time was later, so there was no need to hurry
Avoiding my brothers was a thing of joy
Preventing the company of girls was our hardest ploy
At thirteen, the girls started catching my eye
Teenage romance- I gave it a try
I went from carrying lunchboxes to holding hands
The right thing to do as a young, available man
Playing music and hanging out together
Or just carefree thoughts about whatever
The next thing I knew, it was military time
Not enlisting never entered my mind
Off I went to see the world
Leaving behind this beautiful girl
I served my time and went back home
The girl I left behind didn't wait too long
We did love each other in an adolescent way
I still think of her, even today
As the timepiece keeps circling, thoughts disappear
How nice it is to remember those wonderful years.
