What a butterfly!

Today I took my usual daily walk,
All alone, with no friend or other folk.
The breeze was kind with clouds a bit gray,
And people around passed in a rushed way.
Beneath the sky upon a patch of ground,
I saw a sight that made me spin a round.
A butterfly so bright nothing could hide,
Struggled to escape the sun but soon it died.
The wings were tense and high, ready to fight,
One more battle before the fall of night.
There once was a time it touched the sky’s gate,
But time and tide we know shall never wait.
I held it up and whispered soft and low,
"Your journey's end is mine as well, I know.
So brief our days, so swift our final call!
We race to fame, then like your wings, we fall.”
