Sousa Slept

Sousa Slept

Sousa slept and slept and when he woke
and rubbed the dust of time away
and wound the clock,
			put on the water,
			snubbed the cat,
			and spread the paper,
so as on every other day
he saw he had no mate at all.
He saw he had no mate at all.

	He cooked an egg,
	he sliced the bread,
	he put out milk and jelly;
	he wiped his plate
	and as he ate
	he rubbed his hairy belly.

When he was fed
he cleared the table, dressed
and made his bed;

then took a razor from the shelf
and shortly Sousa was dead.
