Surrender
Alone, I watch the waves roll in
With a transcendent calm
Bright sun pierces my searching gaze
Bathes my skin in a sea of warmth
But on the inside,
A dark storm reigns
Desecrating my calm utopia
Leaving shattered, bleeding emotions
I fight,
But the storm stifles my attempts
Burrowing deeper and deeper within my heart
Only leaving ashes in its path
The mask I wear is a façade
Carefully sculpted with exquisite design
But the terror within
Creeps between the lines
That don’t quite fit
The pieces I try to make fit,
Yet I know never will
My mask shrouds nothing
Slowly burning me from the inside out
The treacherous fire is burning me alive
My heart pounds heavily in my chest
Crushing the cage, meant to protect it
Until I feel flesh ripping
Ribs protruding out through torn, bleeding muscle
And raw, mutilated skin hanging limply
As thick, crimson blood flows from my veins
My still beating heart burns in the sun’s rays
The blood stains the delicate, white lace
Of my gown
Rushes down my arms
Dripping off my fingertips
Into the pure, salty sea
I stand in
The sea dances with my agony
As black, rolling clouds gather in the sky
Stirring up the sea
The waves become colder with power
And wrap around me
Embracing me
Soothing my pain
As the water permeates my lungs
Stealing my breath
Rescuing me from a world of pain
Never to hurt again
