A Curse Upon My Name

A Curse Upon My Name…

I look back through the years at all the self-decay
Brought on by an upbringing in a broken home
All the joys of a normal life that covered up the pain
Pretending to be someone that I wasn’t as I dealt with it alone

Even in my earliest memories I could see the fabric begin to tear
I could feel the breaking of the hearts that pulled my strings
I lived what seemed a life like any other child
But grew into a man that now sees it all so differently

I always have to wonder if I myself am to blame
I raise my voice like thunder at those who cursed our name
I’ve tried to hold my head high, the keeper of the flame
But realized in due time, there was a curse upon my name
From days long past, a curse upon my name…

From my mother’s lips and through my mother’s eyes
I can hear every word and believe in all that she had seen
But from my father’s lips and through my father’s eyes
Reality as it were was not the American dream

Through a liquid haze his days would come and go
And the burden of our family became to heavy of a load
Praying to an unknown God that this would never happen again
Not in his lifetime, nor in ours, but what message did he send...
To us, his children

I always have to wonder if I myself am to blame
I raise my voice like thunder at those who cursed our name
I’ve tried to hold my head up high, the keeper of the flame
But realized in due time, there was a curse upon my name
From days long past, a curse upon my name…

I am touched..The curse remains until one realizes how beautiful it is to breathe and how blessed to be alive..No matter what others make of your family and name..Great post.
