Pre Winter Thoughts

I step outside
And breath in the air
And around me now
I stand and stare
At the dead, leafless trees
No, not dead
Just bare
The fallen leaves
Now silent
Sit
Like a towel fallen before the plunge
A carpet of reds and golds
Set atop the green grass below
One last colorful show
For us to see before the snow
Before winter comes
To cleanse the earth
In a frozen white
A snowy plight
All around as far as sight can see
A time for fires
And jackets warm
But here I stand
Before the storm
My gaze now blank
For I wander in thought
Thoughts that travel far
Amongst the winter stars
But I’m brought back to reality
By a passing car
