In Search of Love
True love! figment, what a big imagination:
The love between David and Jonathan
Better imagined, today, than seen—
And that between Romeo and Juliet is a literary illusion.
True love is freely given—
It has a no “why” to interpret or explain,
And when a reason is found, it fades to wane.
True love is a commodity yet to be seen by man.
True love does not count,
True love does not hurt (or cheat?),
True love does not retaliate,
True love does not itself exalt (yes, boast),
True love finds no fault (: “for better for worst”),
True love finds no reason for deceit,
True love finds no reason not to be “straight”,
True love finds no reason for evil thought.
True love does not compete but compliments,
True love is not dormant, but on behalf of partner acts;
True love forgives and forgets past ills (not in regrets),
True love is unconditional in all things!
Love seeks out excellence, and rings it out—
Virtues to promote, and not frustrate;
Love does not hate, but always seeks to protect;
Love embraces in warmth and delight—
Not to embarrass, to dampen spirit.
Love accepts mistakes and partner’s views respect—
Not arrogant, to irrationally react;
Not to animosity or stupidity exhibit.
And I went me out in search of true love. But alas!:
It was neither here no there, rare as blue rose flowers.
True love is a commodity not existent in this universe.
It is an elusive illusive mirage in a lonely desert! Finis.
