Equality

The people rejoice
Over equality, a union
Between different colors, diversities
A newfound gift.

If only it was equality.

If there were equality,
Our sins would hook us
Out of our homes,
As we have done to fish.

Our pride and dignity
Would eat our morality
Like having birds shot down
One by one,
A beauty, a truth,
dying with each echoing shot.

If there were equality,
Nature could take back
The land it once owned
Like a nurturing parent
To a child so lost.

If there were equality,
The plants would rip our hair,
For each stem, each petal
We have ripped, torn, and broken,
Only to be oblivious of their silent screams.

You call for equality,
A blue moon,
An untouchable sky,
A world in the palm of your hands.
But we have wretched the soul of life
'Til no more,
and yet...
You ask for equality.
