I Wanted Maxfield Parrish

I wanted Maxfield Parrish
For you and with only you
A dream I know
A laugh to you?
Oh, how it couldn't be.

Now, there's been no point
For a long time for any apologies
As much as I want to give them, you know
Ridiculous and hollow to you?
Yeah, what could I say?

How about thanks
For the pain and the longing
A surprise I know
A bad joke to you?
But I'm serious.

This is our paradise present
For the past and the waste
It seems to make sense I know
A mere nothing to you?
That's fine.

If you need us to be dead
For my wrongs and your pity
A shame I know
Any burden to you?
Let go of it.

What I see is a tomorrow
For you and with you
A lot of chutzpah I know
Is it the putative old sick obsession just re-twisted?
See for yourself.

Today my guaranteed fare thee well is here
For you and yours
A shock I know
My goodbye is another lie to you?
No, my Love.
