Dad

This is the second Father's Day
Without my rock, my superman
The one man in this world who was
Supposed to be
Guaranteed not to hurt me
Guess what:
That's a lie
It hurt like hell when my parents fought
It hurt like hell when he got sick
It hurt like hell when he died
Now, it doesn't hurt
But that doesn't mean I'm OK
Just that, that part of me has gone numb
They say time heals all wounds
But I think they're wrong
Because, losing someone you thought
Was immortal
Hurts almost more than I can bear
But, I have to bear it
My mom is too caught up
With her new boyfriend
My boyfriend is too caught up
With his family
My best friend is out of town
And she wouldn't understand anyway
So, here I am, alone,
Trying to bear
The feeling of
Pain, hot, fiery, numbing pain
Seeping in through the giant
Crack
In my armor
And filling
The gigantic hole in my heart
Where my dad used to be
