Once Upon a New Years Eve

It was only to be a fling
but it turned into the real thing
a night she will always remember
set in stone like the end of summer in September

when Portuguese met France
their hearts went into a trance
"Never more shall we be apart,
true love in me you did kick- start"

As the ball is dropped and to his knee he lowers
with shocks and steers from the festive party goers
he asked the ever popular question`
her heart speed up with fervent aggression

As her skin begins to fill with blue and red hue
the claps and shouts begin to brew
she says yes and he placed the ring on her finger
sadly on the digitus quartus it did not linger

On a cool winter's nights she looks up at the stars
as memories flood and tugs at her scars
she looks at an empty finger were hopes and dreams were once placed
where time and unforeseen occurrences had erased

It was only to be a fling
but it turned into the real thing
a night she will always remember
good things sometimes come to an end for the better
